I'm thankful for...

photo taken by: Caroline Tran

I'm thankful for:
  • my family, that includes my wonderful husband
  • the opportunity to be back in school
  • my friends
  • peers at school
  • my faith and all the love, security, and peace it brings me
There's so much negativity in the world and it's easy to fall into that. We can choose to walk with a chip on our shoulder or we can choose to live each day with gratitude. Reminding ourselves of everything we have to be thankful for is very helpful and humbling. It helps me realize that I need to give back to my community and share the love that I receive daily.

March Birthdays

In my family we have 5 birthday's in March. That's a lot to celebrate. This past Friday we went to a Korean-Chinese restaurant called Shin Peking. It was an impromptu gathering to celebrate my grandma's birthday. I forgot to take a picture before we started eating, but we definitely killed it. The second picture is a noodle dish called jjajjangmyun, which is a black bean sauce over noodles- YUM.

Today, I have my human anatomy midterm. I should really be studying instead of blogging, but I need a break right now. There are too many muscles to learn and my brain is not functioning properly due to information overload.

Never ends

I'm in graduate school right now and this is what my dining table looks like everyday! It's a massive vomit of textbooks, pens, papers, laptops, cups, and index cards. I have to memorize a ridiculous amount of medical terms by tomorrow. Impossible? We'll see.

Cheers!

Cheers with hot chocolate at Square One (Hollywood)

Emma and I shared a brioche french toast, bacon and salmon benedict.

Thanks emma for introducing me to Square One!
Friday afternoon Emma and I decided to go to Square One in Hollywood for brunch. Everything was super delicious. They use organic seasonal fruits and vegetables. As recommended by Emma we ordered the brioche french toast and salmon benedict on top of potatoes (more like fried potato latkes) and frisee. The frisee added a nice bitterness against the salty smoked salmon. The crispy potato added a nice texture contrast to the salmon. When I broke into the perfectly poached eggs. it oozed of yellow yolky goodness. As far as the brioche goes, you don't need the extra syrup, it'll probably make it too sweet. Hot chocolate was pretty good too. Not too sweet, just the way I like it.

PEACE

Bored gargoyle on top of Notre Dame de Paris (photo taken by my husband)

I've been listening to a lot of radio while driving to and back from school. Two days ago I heard the tail end of a sermon. The pastor kept repeating, "Jesus is my peace". Eventually I started to say it out loud in the car. It reminded me that I have someone that I could share my burdens with. It reminded me that I need to let go and let God take over. Often times my mind is going crazy thinking about all sorts of stuff. I'm over analyzing everything and basically thinking too much. In the end it leaves me exhausted. I'm slowly learning to rely on Him. It's something that I'm struggling with daily, but I find myself surrendering more and more each day.

Big Five

Photo taken by my husband- St. Germaine district of Paris
About a month and a half ago I couldn't even run for 5 minutes straight. The best I could do was walk at 3.5-3.7 on the treadmill. Today I ran for an hour, that's 5 miles for me. It was a very gradual process and when I first started training I didn't know if I could run longer than 30 minutes. It's a big accomplishment and I feel more confident that I can finish the half marathon coming up in April.
